Notes
I put this up during the 2006 midterm elections. Here are my comments in their original form. The true fans were supportive, though some people are not happy when characters speak on real life issues and I understand that. Anyhow, comments:
This is only here temporarily, I will move it to the Extras gallery once I have recovered from this intractable flu. I'm frustrated with the fact that I'm too sick to do a proper strip and this election has compounded the problem by taking over my brain.
To my international audience, I care about you folks immensely-- at least you can see that some of us really aren't the depressing image of America you're given by our media and our representatives.
I thought I had given up on the country completely when they re-elected Bush, but somehow a spark of hope has taken root in me, maybe the fever's just frying my brain. I've got this one last desperate gasp of hope that they will rise up and kick out the corrupt representatives that failed us.
Their JOB was to keep the executive IN CHECK, not to lay down and spread their legs for every rights abuse Bush wanted to jam into the law. Their job was to be the power the people had, because the founders feared exactly what's happened-- that too much power would be concentrated in the hands of people who were not accountable for their actions, and that once in power an executive could run wild and unchecked. That he could sneak people in to appointments, that he could manipulate the law, that he could break it and there would be no one to challenge him. The representatives were supposed to stand in his way, instead they paved it for him. People in both parties pretended to oppose his agenda and then voted for it.
Admittedly, the candidates you choose are part of the same machine. Right now every choice I have for a vote is reprehensible. It's still important to vote. The only fear this machine has is that it will no longer be able to sustain itself. They have to see how far they can push you before you retaliate by firing them. Right now, that's way too far, and far too much has been taken from us. If we let them get away with what they've done to us, if we let Bush leave office in any way but an impeachment, we will NEVER be free again. In order to accomplish that we need to put the fear of the angry voter deep in their hearts and make them remember that we will NOT do what we have been doing-- letting them run amok and still voting for them because of party loyalty or blind bigotry.
Fire them. Please. Go out there and show them that this kind of betrayal is FATAL to incumbency. It is the only way to send them a message-- and if the new guys fail you, fire them too.
I'm not ordering you, of course, and you shouldn't let anyone order you. I am strenuously begging you. Please put the goodness back in this nation again.
