Notes
Wearing one's pain on the outside is a common theme with the fallen in our mythology. Pure CG, born of a weird CD-shuffle comingling of a soundtrack, Nathan's favourite album, some Fatboy Slim, and some music we've co-opted as 'very malakhy' around here.
The strangest thing about this, for me, is the unusual pattern on the wings, which are naturally insubstantial and abstract because someone in this state of withering could hardly hold them up if they were fully manifest. The pattern reminded me of tattered ribbons, and for some reason that was really very sad. The second strangest is that I actually wasn't feeling sad at all. Usually I am when I do a piece like this. If anything the emotions were along the lines of sympathy and comfort. I fell utterly in love with those very isolated, expressive highlights, too.
